Peace within marriage

Biblical principles for navigating conflict, unity, support, intimacy and spiritual focus within marriage.

A foundation for lasting peace

Marriage is not built on temporary agreements but on a lasting promise before God. Conflict is not meant to divide but to restore connection when handled with humility and love.

Five postures of a healthy marriage

  1. Toe to toe.
    • Disagreements should be approached with respect, honesty and a desire for resolution, not victory.
    • The goal is understanding, not control.
  2. Side by side.
    • A strong marriage requires shared vision and purpose.
    • Unity grows when both individuals pursue the same direction spiritually, emotionally and physically.
  3. Back to back.
    • Each person stands ready to defend, encourage and strengthen the other.
    • Trust deepens when both know they are not facing life alone.
  4. Face to face.
    • Communication must go beyond surface-level interaction into genuine understanding.
    • Time, attention and honesty cultivate deeper connection.
  5. Eyes on Jesus first.
    • A healthy marriage flows from a right relationship with Christ.
    • Daily surrender shapes attitudes, decisions and responses toward one another.

Insight
