A new life raised with Christ

A call to live out a transformed identity in Christ by putting sin to death and pursuing spiritual growth.

Raised to a different way of life

Colossians 3 opens with a bold declaration: believers have been raised with Christ. Because of that, everything changes. Identity is not rooted in past sin, personal achievement or cultural labels but in union with Jesus.

Paul calls the church to set their minds on things above. This is not escapism. It is a reorientation of the heart. When Christ is our life, our desires, decisions and direction begin to reflect his rule and reign.

Four marks of a transformed life

  1. New identity brings a new reality.
    • If you have been raised with Christ, you now belong to him.
    • A new position leads to a new practice.
  2. Kill what is trying to kill you.
    • Paul uses strong language because spiritual compromise leads to spiritual death.
    • Putting sin to death requires intentional action, not passive regret.
  3. We will dress differently.
    • Paul shifts from what to put off to what to put on.
    • Believers are to clothe themselves with:
      • Compassion A tender heart toward the suffering of others.
      • Gentleness Strength under control.
      • Humility A right view of self under God.
      • Kindness Active goodness expressed in words and deeds.
      • Patience Long-suffering endurance with people.
  4. Spiritual formation happens in community.
    • Growth is not a solo project but a shared pursuit.
    • We help one another fight sin and follow Christ.

Insight

  • A changed identity in Christ creates a completely new way of living.
  • Sin must be treated as deadly and confronted decisively.
  • Christlike character is something believers intentionally put on each day.
  • Lasting spiritual growth requires life together in the body of Christ.
