Living from the new self

Examines how transformation flows from a renewed identity, reshapes relationships and desires and warns against mistaking hardness for growth.

Transformation happens not when you start new, but when you realize you are new.

Marks of a transformed life

  1. Walking by faith may look foolish to the world.
    • God’s work in a person may not be immediately validated or understood by others.
    • Trusting God requires prioritizing His truth over public approval.
  2. True change doesn’t happen transactionally but relationally.
    • Grace is not a deal to be earned but a relationship to be entered.
    • Lasting change grows through ongoing connection with Jesus.
  3. A changed life has changed desires.
    • New identity produces new appetites and affections.
    • The Spirit reshapes what the heart loves over time.
  4. We can’t confuse maturity with calloused.
    • True maturity remains tender, repentant and responsive to God.
    • Growth is marked by humility, not detachment or indifference.

Insight

  • Faithfulness to God often requires embracing actions that appear unwise by worldly standards.
  • Deep transformation emerges from relationship with Christ rather than performance for Him.
  • Evidence of renewal is seen in transformed desires, not just altered habits.
  • Genuine maturity keeps the heart soft and responsive rather than resistant and numb.
